RENT SAFELY

We all know that not everyone can be trusted! Follow your instincts and do not room with someone you do not trust.

It can be beneficial to meet the potential roommate(s) in person before signing any contracts. Meet the roommate(s) in a public, well-lit area. Ask to see some form of identification, such as a driver's license or a state issued identification, to ensure the individual(s) is really who they say they are.

CHOOSING A ROOMMATE

Your happiness in your living environment is directly related to your relationship with your roommate. Personal problems with roommates can cause unneeded distress in your life. Remember that friends are not always the best roommates. Friends may take advantage of the situation by borrowing your CD's or clothes without asking, or they may not clean up their mess if they think you will clean it for them. If the roommate relationship becomes strained, you may lose a friend as well as a roommate. Always communicate concerns as soon as they happen.

The RICHMOND ROOMIES screening process ensures your credit requirements are met based on the applicant’s credit report and your selection.

Also included is our advanced Tenant Identity Verification, to reduce fraudulent applications in the tenant screening process. Each report also includes Social Security Number Validation, Bankruptcies, Liens, Judgments and more.

RICHMOND ROOMIES is a resource available to the community, but can only assist in Landlord-Tenant verification. If you are having problems with one or more of your roommates, RICHMOND ROOMIES is not able to intervene. For students however, Off-Campus Student Mediation Services are available, but your roommate(s) must be willing to attend the mediation session. Avoiding conflicts with roommates ahead of time will save you time and possibly money in the future.
